Meet the Founder
Elijah "Eli" Adams
Eli started Lost Terrain Tours out of a direct need for something better in the outdoor industry. As a professional guide and naturalist with years of hands-on experience leading trips, she has seen firsthand the disconnect between massive corporate booking platforms and the actual reality of managing an adventure on the ground. Known on the trail for her deep focus on local ecosystems and responsible recreation, Eli built this platform to shift the balance back to the people who do the real work: the guides.

Lost Terrain Tours is a curated global marketplace for outdoor tours and experiences. We are based at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville, North Carolina, but we host and market hand-picked trips all over the globe.
We started this company because the standard industry model for booking outdoor trips is broken. Massive, revenue-driven corporate booking platforms charge independent guiding operations massive commissions that drain their profits. Even worse, their automated marketing tactics are frequently misleading. They focus strictly on volume, which means guests often show up entirely underprepared and unaware of what the experience actually requires. This forces small businesses to scramble for last-minute fixes, increases safety risks on the trail, and can ruin a person’s relationship with the outdoors.
Because we are guides ourselves, we know exactly what goes into planning a successful trip. We focus on thorough communication and preparation during the booking process, protecting both the safety of the group and the integrity of the experience.

We do things differently here, especially when it comes to our partners. Many booking sites purposefully hide the identity of the actual guiding company until after you pay, using deceptive marketing to keep you from booking with them directly.
We think that is wrong. We love our partners, we respect their expertise, and we have absolutely no desire to hide them. On every single trip page, you will see exactly who is guiding your trip. We choose to feature our partners openly because they are the finest craftspeople in the industry, and they deserve full credit for their work. We don't charge guiding companies a dime to be listed on our site, and we pay them the exact rate they charge their own direct clients.
